Break-down the pallet: If the sod is not being laid immediately, breaking down the pallet can help to combat heat damage. Allow air to flow around the rolls in your shady drop location.
Be prepared: Before the sod arrives, have your laying area prepped and put some thought into where you will have it dropped. The sun heats up sod a lot, so keeping it out of direct sunlight is essential.
Don’t water the sod while it’s rolled up: Watering rolled up sod will actually accelerate the heating process. The grass continues to grow after it has been cut into rolls, and this growth releases nitrogen, which heats the sod further.
Install sod immediately and WATER WATER WATER! Sod should be installed as quickly as possible after delivery and watering should start immediately. This helps reduce root shock and encourages new growth.
