Improve Maintenance by Mastering Cut Height

Increased height of cut is a far more sustainable maintenance practice. Often our green spaces in Alberta are maintained at quiet a low height of cut. Increased mowing height has many benefits, especially in times of drought. Larger leaf surface area increases photosynthesis. Taller grasses canopy, creating a shading and cooling effect for the turf environment. Decreasing water requirements and promoting a healthier plant with deeper root penetration. In turn with the increased height of cut we see decreased mowing frequency, leading to less plant stress improving resiliency to weeds and pests and lower maintenance costs and inputs.

Freedom Fescue pictured is a great low input solution, with this blend we typically see a max height at 30cm before seed heads. This sod type can be left unmaintained further adding to the above benefits.
